Gort - The Day The Earth Stood Still

Here we go with Gort. I have a helmet prototyped, and tested in card. Also included a reference image.

a whole figure? or just the helmet?
There is a small figure out there already, but its kind of distorted.

what scale is yours?
I like the ringed approach.

my favorite film....well, one of my faves.

I think it will be around 12 inches tall when finished. It will be full body, the visor on the helmet will closed, as it is in the reference pictures I am using.
I have started work on the body when I get it done, then I will figure out how I want to attach the head. The test helmet I made is larger scale than it will be on the finished figure. Just seeing how well the ringed approach worked. I think it will work well at the smaller scale.

Sweet!

Looking forward to seeing this progress. Gort is still an iconic sci-fi figure even after all these years. I'll have to build this when it's done in some nice silver paper.

If you want a good view of the Helmet, this video shows it nicely from multiple angles.
You get to see the underside very clearly.
Its an older video (2012).
I question some of his "facts" about this helmet.
This Hollywood Auctions show seemed to be full of scripted untruths many times.

This is a "restored" helmet...and there have been many replicas.
So 60 years later, who knows.

There may have been more than one original helmet.
There were definitely two rubber suits.
One seamed up the back, and one seamed up the front,
for different photographic angles.
They also used a static fiberglass full bodied Gort.

I believe an original helmet is currently owned by the kid from Lost In Space.
If I am thinking of the right person, he collects props.
But I am not certain on that....
I seem to remember a more recent interview showing his collection (and he had the original Gort helmet).
And his wasn't in as perfect condition as this one is.
