Submarines

I have plans to design submarines as commercial e-models. Both World War I and World War II submarines and modern nuclear.
What scale is the most appropriate ?
These are supposed to be relatively simple models.
I am considering 1/250, 1/350 or 1/400.
What are your preferences?

As a sub enthusiast, this is great news! I like 1/100th but I know that's likely too big for most ships. I'd say 1/250th would be a sweet spot.

Good luck!

Scale submarines

My vote would be for 1/250

I'd also like to see the option of waterline and full hull.

Regards

Doug

I, too, would vote for 1/250th. At least that’s a good size for modern submarines. Good luck!

Next to aviation, submarines have always been a fascination.
Read several books on them during their WW II missions.

Admiral Lockwoods, Sink em All! mentioned Clear The Bridge by Richard O'Kane. Found Admiral O'Kane also had another book, Wahoo, The Patrols of America's Most Famous WW II Submarine.

Now I know what a "Toothshaker" is.

Very interested in seeing your designs taking shape.

Hi Cypis,
For me, I prefer 1/400 scale, although the beauty of paper modeling is that you may rescale as needed. I designed a few in 1/400 including this simple HMS Conqueror.
Looking forward to your design!

I think it would depend on how much detail you want for the size. A 1/350 scale Ohio class is just about 20" long. A 1/350 Type VIIc would be 7 inches long. I would personally make a list of the subjects and work out varying sizes based on the scales. But I like to over complicate things.

A lot more complicated, but I would love to see a cutaway submarine, possibly as a half or ¾ hull. The only one I know of is the fictional Nautilus.

I like aviation subjects and submarines almost equally. For me 1\100 is the chosen scale due to my age and eyesight. I am still looking for a good buildable model of the Gato\Balao\Tench class boats from WW2. U-boats have been well covered already....how about Nautilus (the first nuclear sub not the Jules Verne one) or the fictitious Seaview???
