quick look # 53: Porco Rosso Ferry Boat Paper Model Design Rough 3D

https://youtu.be/TQL64L9hHu4

Get this idea in my head for years and I really love to have a model of that boat transporting Savoia S.21 fuselage and Porco. Think if I build a 3D model of it, and maybe from that I will actually make a paper model of the boat. It is in rough right now and I'm sure I will go through much more changes with the 3D before I actually print it out of paper. But, I got a 3d model now, is a good start ~ :D

Thank you very much for watching!

That's interesting.
As before, it is a pleasure to see the process. That way one can only admire the skill and appreciate the hard work involved in designing a 3D model.

Thank you for watching :D

My skill is very limited without professional training, I learn by trial and error. Think I only using less than 1/10 and could be much less of what Rhino can do. Thank God for Youtube or I wouldn't know what to do next after I turned on the program XD

Cool! I loved the movie, the Macchi (and all the other flying boats) and that ferry too.

I'm curious tho--one of my favorite aspects of the shape of the ferry was the way the rails tapered back in then had a flat top, and the way these were reinforced with vertical fitted supports. You can see four of these posts beneath the flat handrail in the detail at 9:05.

I was just curious, after all the other detail you captured, why you chose to take the railing straight up in flat 2D instead of tapering in again, and why you left the handrail (almost a leaning rail) off? To my eye these just seemed like some of the most interesting details, and also the most amenable to paper modeling.

Hi, Mark, the 3d model as is right now is rough, I like to mark up everything and then go back to add detail or a complete overhaul. When I get to it, the first thing I'm going to drop the bow lower. Like I said it is rough, I am not completely happy with the shape so I'll keep pull and push till I finally like it or got distracted with some new project again and move on.

Thank you for watching!
