HMS Fearless (honorverse)

I am a big fan of the Honor Harrington books (the honorverse). The ships in the stories always fascinate me. As a result of my desire to learn the 3d design techniques and my interest, I am designing the HMS Fearless (CL-56, post grav-lance refit). It is in 1/450 and will end up being a bit over 2ft long. So far I have the overall 3d design done and I'm starting to lay out parts so I can do an initial build.

I know there is a very simplistic model or two out there of some of the ships from the series, but I wanted one that had more gravitas. I have the first page of parts laid out and within a few days I hope to have a few more and start punching out parts. I guess I started throwing shapes on the screen about 3wks ago. Be kind, this is on my my second model I've tried to design. If you want to see some of the progress, I have a gallery with more images in it.

I also am a fan of the Honorverse and am glad you're bringing the ships of the Royal Manticoran Navy to the world of paper! Your design looks spot-on.

Honorverse

One of my favorite book series, and the ship looks good. I'll have to go back and skim a few books to see if any actual ship colors are mentioned. Dave H

IIRC, the RMN are painted light grey. The GSN painted theirs white, and the Andermani (sp?) painted theirs black.

Also, I hope to have some pictures of the first set of parts tonight.

Looking good, I also like the series in fact I may have to read it again because it's been awhile. I think I finished the last book in January. LOL.

The first page of parts has gone together. So far so good.

And I have more parts and progress. It is much larger than I pictured in my head. There is enough detail in the parts that it could easily be printed at half size and still go together easily.

The bottom of the center section and the boat bays

The center section with additional armor added for texture

Well, I just found a major error. The center section... the cad model was done at 1/50... and I've been exporting everything at 1/9 for a total of 1/450. The center section without textures exports fine at 1/9, but with textures (and a few px of bleed over) come out at 1/10 because the exporter thinks it won't fit on the page. The good news is that it does indeed fit and print out just fine at 1/9, so I'm having to redo those parts in my master dump and rebuild them.

Interesting. I've read all the honorverse books, and somehow missed the various color schemes. Do you know what color the ships for the Solarian League are painted?

I think the Solarian League ships were painted white or nearly so. Those details are very much less clear in my head.

Here is the sad trombone moment I ran into yesterday.

I'm almost back to where I was at the start of the weekend with the corrected parts. I did make a much stronger interior for the center section.
