Somua-Naval Armored Bus
Hello everybody!
I'm currently working on my second design, the first one was the Spanish Trubia Series A available for download here: Landships II This time I chose another Spanish item, a hastily built armored bus used in the early stages of the Spanish Civil War. I'm designing it at 1/24 for the sake of adding detail, but the model will be available at 1/72 and 1/50 scales. The Somua-Panhard was an urban bus whose license to be built in Spain was purchased in 1931 by Construcciones Navales de Sestao (close to Bilbao). These buses served citizens in many Spanish cities including Madrid and Barcelona. When the Civil War broke up in the summer of 1936, Somua chassis were used to build armored combat vehicles. More than 30 of these vehicles were assembled at the Naval workshops, which already had built the Bilbao armored car, and which also developed the Trubia-Naval tankette. The design evolved through the months, with the early models having a rear arranged turret with slit firing position, while the later models had a centered turret arrangement and the mg fired from a small embrasure. Also, side embrasures ranged from 7 to 10, with most of the models having either 7 or 8. Currently I'm working on Beta version 2, with several new bugs detected and pending correction. When finished, I hope to have it posted alongside my Trubia at Landships for free download. |

As a retired city bus driver, that is excellent. Drove in some areas were I wished I'd been in an armored drivers compartment.

Thank You for following!
Beta version A completed despite design bugs, most of them were minor fittings which were easily overcome. I'll begin editing the final version this week. Regards! |

What he said, that is a beautiful beast, I'm looking forward to building it. I may have to paint the Viva Franco on the side though, lol.
