IXS Enterprise

The IXS Enterprise is one of those spaceships that I wanted to have on my desk since I first saw it. Based upon that, and talking with a few people on #themaxx (efnet) and #modelmakers (snoonet)... they convinced me to give it a go. I'm aiming for 1/96... so 64cm long.

With that said, here are the last few days of putterings from the gallery.

It should be interesting to see your take on the subject.

Well, I wish you had started this last year...because I am almost finished.
In fact, I am finished the build...
I just have to mount the Warp Rings, but I am waiting until I get a stand and display case sorted out.

This is a commissioned build I reluctantly took on last year,
however I have modified the original model considerably over the course of the build.

IXS Enterprise Spacecraft by Murph's Models (Commission)

Indeed. Aaron Murphy has done an IXS already. Should be an interesting
comparison.

The photo adds twenty pounds!

In other words, its hard to see the myriad of imperfections.
I improved a lot of areas, but I'm sorry to say, its a poorly designed model and its far from perfect.

I didn't know of the commissioned project (Dave, excellent job), but I did see the one over at ecardmodels.... I still wanted to do it on my own.

Dave, what scale is yours? I'm intending to put a good bit of detail into this one, as I wanted something suitable for sitting in a display case in a local museum.

I too have had a few people ask (with money) for me to design this one... and since I wanted it as well made it a no brainer. I haven't figured out yet how I can release it after taking a few dollars for it.

I worked on carving up the lower hull beneath the saucer last night (which I liked). I also did the struts and blisters... I will be redoing those. I didn't think about how to build them as I moved stuff around on the screen.

I don't like the sensor array being on that long mast at the front. I think it should have the base pulled farther forward with a motorized mount.

I have no idea what the "scale" is as Murphy doesn't actually design models to specific scale
(I think he designs to fit things on the page and then figures out the final scale)

and this "spaceship" isn't really to scale, since its nothing more than CGI artwork.

Mark Rademaker has done a lot of Sci Fi and Star Trek ship designs in CGI.
Not sure if he actually has anything to do with Paramount or Star Trek.
He is friends with Mike Okuda.

Rademaker designed this ship...or parts of it...a long time ago.
In fact, the design has apparently changed and evolved over the years,
now with these "Warp Rings" added based on some discussions with a NASA scientist.
I've got earlier artworks that show this craft in various configurations without the Warp Rings.
Before the IXS Enterprise, the main body of this design was the IXS Clarke.

Anyway, my "commission" was that I build Murphy's model for someone who has an interest in this craft but doesn't build paper models.
He saw the model at ecardmodels I think.
He, like many, thought this was an actual NASA concept...which its not.
But he still wants a display model.
Nevertheless, I warned my customer that this wouldn't be a great build
...and I have struggled to clean up, redraw and modify this model to suit my taste.

It will be interesting to see what you do with it.
