For all the designers out there, I have another thought that I'm weighing.

How should I go about releasing this model?

One idea I had is to put it on ecardmodels. (I was estimating $20... dunno.)
Another idea is to put it in the download section and my website and then write an impassioned plea on the first page of the instructions with a donation link and people give whatever they think it is worth.

Which option do you think would be better?

I know that I've already sunk 2.5mo into this project and it'll likely be another 1.5-3mo before I have the test build done and instructions assembled.

Just my two cents...

I think $20 is a bit steep for a digital model, especially one that has a limited audience
and there is already a version of this same craft in the shop.
But I am cheap...lol...and I always try to price my stuff as cheap as possible.

Nobody is comparing quality or design, but you still have to be aware that there is a $10 version already there.

I put more than a year into the design of my Saladin kit
...and 18 months into the Centurion Tank.
Many other models have easily taken 6-12 months to complete a retail version.
So, I completely understand your desire to make it "worth it"!

But then again, many top designers have put months and years into free models.

Asking for donations is a fair thing...I agree with it.
But don't be disappointed if you get a lot less than what you think its worth.
Theres plenty of free stuff out there now, and most modelers have tight budgets.
I respect that.

Then, theres the problem of piracy.

You could try a Poll?
Put up a series of prices (eg $0, $8, $12, $15, $18, $20, $24)
And ask people to vote on what they would be willing to pay?

A poll once I get closer isn't a bad idea. Maybe I'll try that.

The more I think about this, the more I'm leaning towards a free distribution with a paragraph of begging on it.

If you need someone to beta test the instructions and fit, who wasn't biased by the design process, I'll volunteer.

Great work...
