For all the designers out there, I have another thought that I'm weighing.
How should I go about releasing this model? One idea I had is to put it on ecardmodels. (I was estimating $20... dunno.) Another idea is to put it in the download section and my website and then write an impassioned plea on the first page of the instructions with a donation link and people give whatever they think it is worth. Which option do you think would be better? I know that I've already sunk 2.5mo into this project and it'll likely be another 1.5-3mo before I have the test build done and instructions assembled. |

Just my two cents...
I think $20 is a bit steep for a digital model, especially one that has a limited audience and there is already a version of this same craft in the shop. But I am cheap...lol...and I always try to price my stuff as cheap as possible. Nobody is comparing quality or design, but you still have to be aware that there is a $10 version already there. I put more than a year into the design of my Saladin kit ...and 18 months into the Centurion Tank. Many other models have easily taken 6-12 months to complete a retail version. So, I completely understand your desire to make it "worth it"! But then again, many top designers have put months and years into free models. Asking for donations is a fair thing...I agree with it. But don't be disappointed if you get a lot less than what you think its worth. Theres plenty of free stuff out there now, and most modelers have tight budgets. I respect that. Then, theres the problem of piracy. You could try a Poll? Put up a series of prices (eg $0, $8, $12, $15, $18, $20, $24) And ask people to vote on what they would be willing to pay?

If you need someone to beta test the instructions and fit, who wasn't biased by the design process, I'll volunteer.
Great work...
