Through the years I have come across some forums where people do quite a job researching what models the studio pulled kitbashing parts came from. And then some people go on to reproduce the studio model, at least in its external appearance.
Gotta admit, it is a bit of a fun game to try to determine what a part is and what kit it might be from. Though I built a lot of models in previous decades there were magnitudes more many models I didn't build, so a lot of the parts remain mystery. And that's okay.

Oh yes there are panzer parts .

Thanks to RPF forum there is almost complete "kit part map" for this backplate (and another parts of Y-wing). I used this map and kit plate photos to model this parts as closely as possible from 2d reference. It taked decade and more to identify most, if not all, model parts that were used on Y-wing. For people with lots of free time it could be fun to identify them . I am very thankfull for their achievement, becouse I could not justify time spend on this task. Well sometimes I can not justify my time spend on paper models, but this is another story that should also be told

Hey.
On Grabcad I found a 3d model in the public domain that you can import into Rhinoceros and work with it.
Perhaps it comes.

Thank you very much for the tip, mcboom.

I know about this model. It is possibly one of the most detailed free Y-wing 3d models. But I aim for high accuracy, so it was not so usefull to me.
