RN Zara by Zio Prudenziati - Full Hull Completion

(Sorry that this is not much of a design thread, but I can't think of a better place to put them)

Zio Prudenziati's ship models was quite the introduction to cardmodelling to me. I liked his works very much, but didn't get a chance to know more about him before this great man passed away. That aside...

Italian ships are some of my favourites and I was planning to start on his Zara sometime. I found his design detailed without being tedious, but his models are waterline, intended for dioramas. For those of us whose collection is mostly full-hull, having the underwater hull would be a nice addition so erm, I decided to add it myself. It was a relatively quick project after tracing Zio's waterline and bulkheads, and it is now ready for construction. If anyone would like the underwater parts to Zio's RN Zara, I would be very happy to share them.

Here I have a few questions for those interested,

Should I release this (am I allowed to release this as a free download)? Is anyone interested in building this? And should I be doing more like this (hull conversion kits) in the future? If there are enough interest, I would start taking requests of full-hull conversions for free, for example JSC kits. 1/400 definitely deserves some love.

Generally, if you release a mod kit, and not a complete kit, that shouldn't be a problem to upload here.

If you were wanting to upload a full kit of Zio's Zara, using his artwork, that would definitely be an issue. A mod kit would be fine.

Unless I'm wrong again

I was hoping a moderator would hop on and clarify, but my understanding is that you can upload a mod kit for an existing model.

But I don't think you would be able to upload a full-hull Zara kit using Zio's templates without his or his estate's permission.

Is that correct?

Great Work Lex!!!

Hello Lex,

Great Work Lex!!!
Since i've joined the Card Modelers i think Ships without complete Hull are like cars without wheels!!!
I like Zios Models very much and it would be nice, to built the Zara as a full hull modell! Therefore i would be very very interested in your Addon!
Also there are still some of Zios Ship waiting for an underwater hull!

The other problem is naturally the copyright. In Germany it is similar tricky.
On the other hand as long as you "only" publish your Addon for the Zara it shouldn't be a problem!

Since he had passed away and his models were always for free, i can't see the problem.
The other problem is, since Zios original Page is down for a quite long time it is meanwhile quite problematic to find his Models on the web
Lucky i have most of his ship models on my harddisk!
I suppose there should be some lawyers here in the forum, who should know better than we do!

Just one personal thought, as long as someone builts Zios models, he is not forgotten! As the ancient greek once put it, a man is only dead, if he is forgotten.

But maybe this is against the copyright?!

Never the less i would be very interested in your underwater hull of the Zara. If there are any problem i would like to give you my email adress for the files!

Many greetings from the other side of the north sea,

sincerely yours

The oldenburger

P.S

By the way, did you use rhinoceros or Blender ?

With the Way Back Machine old kits never die. Not a WBM expert but hopefully someone will pop up that is. I like your Greek comment very much. Consider yerself plagarized...

Lex can share his under waterline hull add on, it is his model/modification after all.

So I am ok with him sharing what he has created.

Hello Lex, do you have decided?

Helllo Lex,

do you have decided whether you will publish the Addon of Zio's Zara or not?

As Rickstef mentioned, it would be completely legal if you would do!

And i suppose there would be a couple of cardboardmodelers, who would be quite happy

I wish you a nice weekend
