I started with a new base cad model and I am much happier with the overall shape now.

Hello Thales,
great start.

I would like to also point you to this:

https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=283935
or alternatively his facebook site
https://www.facebook.com/Alien-Narci...0214174234114/

This guy did a whole detailed CG model based on photomatched images of original model. He will not release 3D model, but if you ask him he coud do some ortographical renderings for you. That would make invaluable and most precise reference you can get.

Reference photos of original model on his FB page:

Thanks for the pointers. I have a few of those images already I'm using for the detail bits. But due to how paper models need to be lower-poly versions of fancy CG models... I'm still going to have to take some (hopefully small) liberties so that this thing can be constructed at all. So I'm hoping for a 99% accurate result as opposed to 99.99%.

More progress. I *think* the paneling is pretty accurate.

Guess I need to see the movie again. Don't remember this ship at all. Which I'm starting to get used to with the models a lot of you come up with. Start to feel like I slept through parts of the movie...and not just Alien, which I've seen at least 3 times.
Anyway, good looking model will be looking forward to its completion.

Incredible model and one I've been looking forward to since I started modeling and another one I would like to add to my collection. I seen the movie a couple of times and access to all of them. I have one question, will you be selling it or will it be a free download. I hate to get to the point but I have to know so if it's one your going to sell I have to chat with my banker about founds. What ever you do I will be following this build till the end. Thank you for your high degree of detail. It will be a fantastic model when complete. Thank you very much. wc

Thanks!

I'll distribute it the same way I have my others.... There will be a paragraph ask for a donation if you think it is worth something, but the files will be available without charge.

I fully recognize anything I design and distribute (free or with a charge) will end up somewhere else on the internet. I'd rather not try to deal with chasing those things down and doing C&D's, but instead just include a blurb asking for a donation. I also feel that the people who won't make a donation are in large part the same ones that wouldn't buy it anyway... so overall I'm minimizing the work and complexity I need to manage.

TL;DR - I'm lazy, stressed out, and uninterested in having to act like an adult... I want to spend my time designing and building instead of chasing down bad actors.

That is the shuttle that Ripley escaped in before Nostromo blew up. Unknown to her at the time that alien thing stowed away on it so she had to get into a spacesuit too, ummm, she got into a spacesui... umm, yeah.
