the value of 3views

Triggered by a newspaper headline I intended to design a 1:75 Catalina and - as usual - downloaded all available 3views to start with.
Then - after scaling them in DraftSight - I stumbled over unbelievable discrepancies.

It's pretty normal to have such discrepancies if you're basing your model on random 3-views from who knows where. What you need to do is find a more definitive source. Searching for "Consolidated Catalina plans" I found a page that could be useful:
https://aerofred.com/details.php?ima...82&mode=search
these seem to be drawings made by someone who took measurements of an actual airframe back in 1984. It has plenty of specified measurements and enough cross sections to produce an extremely authentic model.

This is a mighty great link and then I'm not only referring to the three pages plan, but to the movie. Guys with guts ! Taking off your valuable scale model that way...
Would really have enjoyed a proper take-off instead of an engine failure.
I have copy-pasted the three plans instead of paying for them.
Thanks for the hint.
Cross sections in particular may become useful after checking height/width in relation to top- and side views.
I willl show the results.

It's a pity that he could not take off, those guys if they have courage, his models could have sunk. A lot of work has been designed, how much research, information and all that they have to collect. The designer's work is admirable.
