Wonderful work. I am really looking forward to being able to buy this one. When it is done, do you think Cor might be interested in making the necessary modifications to represent the Canadair Northstar/Argonaut variant with the Merlin V12 powerplants?

Ah well. A DC-4 is still very much appreciated.

Now that the Santa Fé sleeper is virtually finished, Cor van Haasteren is going full steam ahead with our DC-4 Skymaster. He is doing a lot of test building, and is satisfied (so far) with the fit.
He also found more pictures on Google, showing DC-4's in a 'plane graveyard' - which showed clearly that the movable parts of wings etc. were originally covered with canvas. Of course he could have just shown this in the colouring (the easy option for the builder as well), but he found a much more beautiful solution - perhaps a first in paper plane modelling - see next item.

Cor writes: am now checking the fit of the tail parts. The fluent shape from main fuselage to tail looks very good.
The inner construction (ribs, formers) of the moving parts is an exact copy of the real model, as seen on the earlier pictures. I used 120 grams paper for the 'canvas' surfaces - rubbing them slightly gives the very natural effect. He is already looking forward to making the instruction sketches - some of them works of art themselves!

That's excellent news Mr. den Bakker, excellent news!!! And it is going to be a real beautiful model. Keep up the good work. No decisions concerning the scale?

The gradual fairing running from front to rear between the vertical and horizontal tailsurfaces is one of the most difficult shapes to make in paper modelling. No Douglas DC-6 or 7 model I have ever built so far has achieved this correctly.
Untill now. What Cor has designed (see 3rd and 4th picture) is brilliant , it is so real! The fabric surfaces are also stunning. |

Yes: it will be 1/50, but those who like their models big can of course print to any larger size!

Looking very good! This is going to be a beautiful rendition of the aircraft. I have a spot on the wall reserved for it, where it will hang next to a large scale Sikorsky S-40, Boeing B-377, and Tu 104 airliners. Thanks for all the effort going into it, and for sharing the work of a master designer along the way.
