What model scale to build?
In recent days I've mused on just what scale to make a paper model at. I'm sure other people have better insight into this, but here are my thoughts.
In general * Use a standard scale size if possible -- especially if you want to compare it with other models already at that scale. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_scale_model_sizes * At what point does an ever-larger (smaller?) scale model give diminishing returns (visual impact, usability, build-ability?) * If you want to go bigger but the model's biggest part shouldn't have a seam from joined subpieces, then make sure that part fits on a single piece of paper -- this will put an upper limit on the model scale. * Do you have the space to house a larger model? * If you want to go smaller, then make sure the model's smallest part isn't too difficult to assemble at that size. Reasons to go bigger * Bigger models can have more visible detail, and have a bigger visual impact. * If you want physical detail that's more easily buildable, then go bigger (rather than making a smaller part with printed detail.) * Larger parts with a compound curve can have more (and finer) "facets," and appear smoother (more realistic.) Reasons to go smaller * Smaller models are more portable, and take up less space. * Gravity becomes a factor on a bigger model's stiffness and straightness. * Bigger models use more paper (and printer ink.) I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. What do you think about when choosing a scale to build your paper model at? Cheers! TFM

There are so many factors to consider it's not even funny. To me it's like "I need a car/house/GF/gun,can you suggest one" type of thing.
A lot will depend on what market you will aim at and will it be digital model or printed copy.Plane,train,building-all have their own scales. |

For me since my primary interest is cars, trucks and ag equipment I tend to go for 1/25-24th scale to fit with the way too many card and plastic models I already have.

Mine is ships On some if the hull fits one sheet.Say a freighter or destroyer. Where i download then print. If, there are several small parts. I feel going larger say an 11x17 is easier to cut. My printer goes up to 13x19. But, I have them done at Kinkos
