1984 Porsche 956 Short tail W.I.P.
Hi all,
This will be my first model to be designed using 3D software!! I tried messing around with Sketchup's free web version, and I ended up making a simplified model of the 956. I had trouble unfolding the model with Pepakura, because the 3D model was sloppily made. But I managed to get the body done. I must find a way to draw the wheels in Sketchup. I can't seem to draw a smooth circle, and that messes up the sidewalls. Here's some work done. I'll try and redraw the parts in Inkscape and relocate some glueing edges for an easier build. I have planned 2 schemes so far, the Joest New Man car that was driven by Senna at the 1000km of Nurburgring, and the Rothmans car that destroyed the Nordschleife lap record in the hands of Stefan Bellof.

Wow! That's very impressive, especially considering that it's your first effort at designing a model with 3D software.

Promising!
I hop you 'skip' the dotted foldinglines in the actual kit... I mean not the ones on the window, for example, but those on the fenders'edge... Following!

For a first attempt looks really good.
I'm not very familiar with Sketchup, but have you tried to make wheel from round polygon? The more polygon tips the smoother the circle is? Because I guess Papakura don't operate with bend surfaces?

Thank you for the interest!! I have a lot of ongoing projects, so I'm going to develop the model at a very slow rate.

I tried using the "draw circle" tool, but it seems like the web version limits the polygons to about 24 edges... I'll try and find more info.

Big mistake...
The blueprint I used... It was for the 962. Luckily, the two models are very closely related, and not much modification was necessary. For now, I extended the front section.

The roof profile was slightly changed. I'll try and work on the suspension and wheels next.

Haven't worked on this for a long while, and I think it will take more time to finish it. Working on a puny old laptop ain't easy!!! People nearby are getting infected with Covid-19 by acting like 10 year olds (their lack of awareness and common sense no longer surprises me... Risking people's lives on a daily basis), so I have all the time in the world, but I want to prevent excessive eye strain.
I have made some significant progress, though. I'm redrawing the template and slowly adding details. I haven't started designing the wheels yet, but I'm hoping they will follow soon.
