Congratulations, it is looking amazing, I love this model and I would have liked to help, I make basic models using sketchup, unfortunately this program does not open the files you sent, so I only have to look and give my support to this beautiful project.

Inkscape FYI

You can download Inkscape and edit away.

It's free.

Thanks for the support, everyone. If you check the earlier posts in this thread, there are links to

Inkscape. I haven't attached the 3d object model yet, as I am still developing it.

Posted a few more build instructions and photos to the build album. I've designed out the rest of the body, and started cutting them. Hopefully I'll start a new chapter of instructions tomorrow night.

B9 Robot Build Part 3: Bodybuilding!

B9 build Part 3: Bodybuilding
There's the link to the new album. I am still cleaning up and labelling the parts sheets. Should be done this weekend sometime.

Here's a couple of pictures of the finished bottom half, paint and all...

Lol!

So I did some more cutting and building on the body. But it seems I tried to get too clever on some of the detail work and my design was outpacing my ability to actually construct it... I am re-thinking some of the parts, and how to make them work IRL, but I decided to go ahead and post the svg files I have already, in case someone wants to have a go at it. I am attaching a zip file with the 6 pages that make up the body main core and trim.

The problem arose when I was constructing the lower part of the barrel body. There are four recessed panels with clear plastic slide covers. There were some switches or lights or some doodads in those I remember from the show. Anyhoo, I made those as actual recessed boxes and designed a clear plastic layer that would go around the entire body, on top of the recessed boxes, but under the outer layer of card stock that formed the lower cap of the body. This meant I had to construct the boxes and paint them, mount them on the clear plastic ring, them mount that inside the body.

I mean..it actually worked, but I some how didn't account for attaching the cap piece to the bottom of the body correctly. My flaps were too small and the whole bottom unit was too small. I didn't want to abandon what I had already made, so I forced the issue, slung glue boogers all over the place and ended up adding another wider trim piece around the bottom edge to hide most of the ugliness I had added forcing everything to fit I am attaching a couple pics here to show what I mean.

The good news is I corrected this on the design sheets, made the bottom piece larger, so it could possibly be ok if you attempt it. I don't know for sure, because I have not attempted to reprint and rebuild it yet. I probably will re-visit this area later on and make an un-recessed version that will only have the covers represented with raised panels.

Long story even longer-you can see updated build pictures in the album here.
