I watched a video the other night of a guy who disassembled one to modify and paint it. The electromechanics in this thing is a little mind boggling. It plays sound clips, rotates the body, counter rotates the head, legs move back and forth, while the spinning gyros inside the top of the dome spin around in a circle. The mouth lights up in sync with the voice. There was some serious engineering put into this toy.

On the paper side of things, I'm cutting and assembling the body and chestplate.

robby the robot

Your description of the toy Robby' functions makes me want one more! Your chest detail is beautiful. I built a vac formed kit of Robby years ago and it was the hardest model i've ever built so i empathise with how difficult your build is.

That pose never occurred in the film...just on one of the Forbidden Planet theater posters making Robby look more menacing than he was.
Would have been cool, though. Nice customization for the model builder based on your mock-up.

I was at Walmart this afternoon picking up my new glasses, and I went and fawned over the Iron giant figure. I'm holding off until payday for that one! So they have three each, I guess they are restocking regularly. No shortage yet, lol.

On the paper Robby front, I totally re made the feet and legs again. I was unhappy with my flaps arrangement. Much better now. Regular human beings should be able to assemble them now, lol.

I'm holding off on attaching them to the hips until I see how things balance out up top.
Looking good. You know when you're done with Robby, you're going to have to add his Jeep...LOL

Thanks! I've been watching these videos and this guy is a prodigious robot maker! Lots of cool stuff and all of my favorite robots, plus many, many more. He has already done all the things I wanna do!

Have you checked out this link from the Robot Hut site? Fred Barton makes and sells full-scale movie robots/props. Some good info and pics too.
