Nice work! Your 3D design work is amazing! I'm a retired commercial artist/graphic designer and I can do standard design work but 3D is beyond me.

Here is the mostly done Dewey. I have a bunch of little bolt heads to laminate and apply, and then I'll figure out how I want to handle the arm and hydraulic/pneumatic hoses...still rolling that around in my head for now.

Chipotle' restaurant bags have rolled paper handles that are a little less than 1/8" thick. I wonder if you could slim them down with water and a doweling jig. If you don't own one you can get one from Micro Mark.

Or you could use thermostat wire. Since I know you're not above mixing your media.

Your version Dewey looks really nice so far.
For the tubing, you could try wrapping a slightly dampened strip of paper around a metal wire. If wrapped in a fairly tight, overlapping spiral it should end up looking like a scale piece of flex hose. It might even work to roll a very thin, straight tube from paper, then spiral wrap it, then bend it to shape. Actually, I think I will try that on the spacecraft I am currently designing. :o |
