Munitions
So I finished the torpedo tubes and this, it's the "ASROC" (Anti Submarine Rocket), the launcher is known as the, "Matchbox"
While the later ASROC's we're capable of deploying a nuclear torpedo, as I understand it, this one in particular deployed a conventional depth charge.

Dash
This is what's next, it's the QH-50C Gyrodyne DASH (Drone Anti Submarine Helicopter) Remote controlled, used to locate Submarines and capable of deploying torpedoes.
Only now gathering reference materials, the Museum has it in their possession but I understand that it won't be displayed until the ship is moved to it's final mooring.

killing time
Okay, I've got plenty of time to kill, I'll be adding smaller and smaller details as I await the ship being moved so I can get photo's of the Port side.
It may be apparent from the model that the Starboard side is now far more detailed as I have plenty of reference material but the Port side is rather void, I simply don't have enough reference materials until the ship is relocated. Likewise, I have photographic evidence that the steps are painted yellow. I can only assume that ALL steps were this color since I haven't been on the ship and don't know otherwise, same goes with the flight deck markings they will remain that way until I have more definite information. Interestingly enough, I became preoccupied with the DASH, While researching it, I determined that it would be very small and would be difficult to assemble to any degree of accuracy in the ship model's scale, it will however be included. What I'm working on now, and a determination has been made that I will model the DASH to a VERY HIGH degree that it might be offered as a, "stand alone" model produced in a much larger scale to be offered separately. This would essentially create a second noteworthy model that can be used to promote the museum. More on the DASH next (stay tuned)

Port Side
I expressed to the Jacksonville Naval Museum that I only had photos of the Starboard side of the ship and need photos of the Port side (riverside) to continue.
They responded by providing Wally Conway and his charter ship, the "Studio Sea" a 2002 Mainship 390 Trawler to take me out to photograph on the St. John's River where the USS ORLECK is moored. I can't thank all involved enough for providing this opportunity for me to see the ship and my city from this waterline vantage point.

That is INCREDIBLE, FRD! What a great bunch of people and an amazing opportunity!
(I am doing some volunteer work for a new site called "Maritime Music Directory International", a site to bring maritime music performers and venues and media together, and allow maritime music fans to find events all in one place. I just looked and Jacksonville Naval Museum wasn't on the initial list but I've just added them -- Thanks for the tip!) (All are welcome - no fee). Looking forward to seeing your photos! (Yes, and your model) Kurt |

Studio Sea
Okay, I've got a commitment, Friday July 8th I'll board the "Studio Sea" to photograph the Port side of the USS ORLECK.
This is a great occasion because it is apparent on the model that I've been detailing the Starboard side but the Port side is noticeably void due to a lack of reference materials. The Museum "stepped up" and provided Captain Wally Conway and his 39 foot (11.8872 M) charter for the service. Hat's off to both the Jacksonville Naval Museum and the Studio Sea for their support of paper models! Here are two images of the charter.
