Do you recognize this?

Here is the start of a long term design project at 1/24th scale. If you are the first to know, or guess correctly what this will be, I will send you a set of the drawings....but I can't promise just when that will be.

I have a couple of projects to finish for the Paper Modeler's Convention this year, but after that, I intend to work on this design in ernest!

KV-I and KV-II were famous Russian tanks from WW II.
If you don't know what a KV is, the pictured part is probably not part of a tank.

Is it a drive wheel from a WWII Sherman tank?

It is a drive sprocket.

It's not a T-34 since that used the BT drive with the guide plates driven by bars inside the drive wheel.

It isn't a KV drive sprocket since that used a dual sprocket.

It isn't a Sherman drive - that used twin sprockets that engaged with the twin pin assembly on the outside of the track.

This is quite odd - there is a single central drive sprocket with what looks like outer frames that engaged the guide plates. Judging from the size cues it's
a fairly substantial drive sprocket - I'd estimate it's actual size as about 85-100cm.

Regards,

Charlie

Yes, it is a drive sprocket. Not a Sherman...Not a T-34, not a KV....see Zapopious' post.

Its past my bedtime! I'll check to see if someone has nailed it in the morning! Jim
