Was looking at the release notes.
Bug fix for 4.4.2
"[Boolean] does not work on Windows XP"

Just a bug, get the new version.

yea i was talking with them about it. i got the update. it works fine now.the thing people need to look for now when using pepakura is the booleans created often make complex polygons with free floating vertices. these will have to be reconstructed as 3 or 4 point polygons in order for pepakura to properly read the geometry.

100% correct. While the booleans in Meta4 absolutely rock they do need to be checked and cleaned up after you run them. Still takes less time than doing it manually.

To be honest I'm finding meta4 to be far to buggy (every version), can't run it without it crashing every time I use it. Sticking with 2.48 as the plugins are better.

so far the only stability problems i have had is occasional lockup when performing a boolean operation.as i tend to save quite often, it doesnt mess me up too bad. other than that i have found version 4 to be a vast improvement.

Might be just my direct x version then.
Boolean in meta has always crashed a lot, it's the maths involved with tiny triangles.
The new boolean gives you n point polygons, old meta had 2,3,or 4 point polygons.
Pepakura shouldn't have a problem with them, it has always dealt with them from 3DS, although pepakuras displaying of weird things has issues, it usually unfolds them correctly.

Other issues in META4:
- ZOOM levels. Under the default viewport settings, you can't zoom very much. Just a few rolls on the mouse wheel will make you punch into your model's innards. The guys at Tetraface/Meta advised me to adjust the viewport settings to allow me to zoom closer. It worked, but it's counter intuitive.
- Models that you've upgraded from META3 to META4 format sometimes causes Pepakura Desinger to crash when loading.

Despite the issues of META4, the improvements on the BOOLEAN function alone is enough to justify the switch.

for me also, i find the measure tool and measurements marked on the grid a welcome upgrade as well.

Quick heads up.
I was wrong, I tested the ngon in pepakura, it didn't like Australia made with 28 points.
If it can't do a concave polygon like that, it is safe to assume it can't cope with any concave polygon, it's the same code for 5 or 28 points.
Triangulate and quadulate?

Meta4 doesn't crash anymore using opengl render, but the shadows flash on and off like crazy.
