recovering corrupt pdfs

i just completed a very nice space freighter,saved th multy layer pdf as i always do. now it wont open. photo shop says not recognized file type or corrupt data.

pretty sure most of the data is intact but i cant open the pdf.

any helpful thoughts?

tried another pdf reader like Foxit?

tried that no joy. says its not a pdf.
look at file properties, says .pdf
something screwed during the save. probably one bit missing.

I've had some success opening corrupt files with Gimp. Not all will open, but some did
