It's got to be Aaron Murphy. Not necessarily the best among others, but his designs won't disappoint you in any way. And his kits are reasonably priced. The freebies are also great and no kiddies stuffs, good for pros and amateurs alike.

Just a second before I forget about Murphy, he listens, and that's really important!!

I indeed have to add myself too that Kugelfang's opinion of what is to be found on Ecardmodels is very unfair to what you can get when you actually buy a model there. The cheapest ones already are very nice models. Like Ladndad's DH88 Comet racer for example. I am doing the plane right now and it is a joy to build. Mark Cable's kits also aren't free and are among the best rocket designs around. I built a Mil-6 helicopter a long time ago from Ecard and it still looks the part.
I suggest to Kugelfang to actually buy something you would really like to build. You won't be disappointed. |

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! This has got to be one of the most helpful forums I've seen in a long time. I've got a lot of designers to research.

I recently found a printout of a WWI A7V which I had designed in 1999. It had some fit problems which I wasn't able to resolve--being the geometry idiot that I am. But it's a fairly simple shape to model so I'm going to give it a go again using some new ideas (for me) on how to convert the 3d computer model to a paper model. I've also been thinking about posting a log (design log as opposed to build log?) to document the process. I'm sure I'll go down a lot of dead ends but those might be helpful for others, too. Thanks again, --jeff |

Chip Fyn because he was a pioneer back in the day when paper models were all hand drawn. Just a couple of pages and you ended up with a model that resembled its subject. To a very large degree his were the gate way models that got me hooked on paper modeling (those and a couple of Schreiber models purchased from Berkeley Hardware and Jeffrey's Toys. Chip's models were the real turning point since I could actually finish one without too much head banging.)
