Advice on laser cutter?
I need advice. There have been threads on affordable laser cutters before - but this technique develops very quickly, those threads may easily be out of date.
I would like recent info and advice about tabletop cutters - brands, prices, suitable for paper and cardboard op to 2 mm? Size: A4 (letter) or preferably A3 (so more or less double Letter size). Would be especially interested in types available in Europe. Hope someone can help! Diderick A. den Bakker, Holland. |

Eleksmaker has some DIY plotter/laser engraver if like to build one. I'm tempted to buy one. Some 3D printers have a laser attachment but have limited cutting area.

emblaser by darkly labs is still the best bet. i have had mine for 2 years now and love it. suffice to say my knives and scissors are getting rusty! the a4 emblaser 1 is still usd 700 including shipping and software. it's a kit. assembly is required. the new emblaser 2 is a3 size usd 2450. factory assembled. check website as suggested by tim crowe.

a380,
How difficult is it to assemble the laser cutter? Last edited by Astroboy; 08-11-2017 at 11:13 PM. Reason: typo |

i wouldn't say it's difficult; just requires patience and basic familiarity with building things. The instructions are very clear and you require a screwdriver and pliers at most. it took me about 6 hours. since a lot of the structure is plastic parts i was careful not to tighten screws too much and made sure everything was 'squared up' before moving to the next step. finally, the owner is very responsive to your questions and they have a very active and helpful forum. hope this helps.

a380,
Thanks for the information. If there is no soldering in the assembly there may be a laser cutter in my future. |

no there is no soldering. all the electronic components come pre-assembled. wires are fitted with snap connectors. i am happy to answer any other question you may have.

I wrote to darklylabs but they answered back. Are they still in business?
