RQ-170 Beast of Kandahar
I've been working on Tekzo's RQ-170 as part of my "Active Service US UAV" project. With his permission, I've begun up scaling and recoloring his design. My first prototype didn't go well. The overall shape was close, but I'm struggling with the internal former's he'd designed and I'd redrawn.
So here's where I come to "designers helping ..." Is there an easy/better way to create internal formers from scratch? do I need to find and pull down a 3d model and create slices from that?

If you can find a 3 view withcrosd sections, that would be your best route. One thing though, the model you are upscaling is probably not going to match your 3 view so you will have to adjust the skin. Another option is to ask the original designer of their sources.
Wishing you success. Dave |

Yeah there are a few 3D models out there but the measurements vary from the 72ns scale model and widely from design to design. Picking one is going to mean starting with lots of fresh measuring and redrawing.
Btw I did chat with Tekzo, great guy but his source files are long since lost into digital purgatory.

Say, does anyone know the font size of “NO STEP” stenciles in 1:48 scale?
Also I really wish Publisher was better at shading gradients or drop shadows for the panel effexts. Ahhh compromises. Prototype #2 below. Verdict - too “puffy”

So two developments on the font size conversation if you'll kindly indulge me in answering my own post. A friend over on Air Craft Resource Center commented in PM that stencils were typically 1" or 1/2" tall. I had already gotten myself an early Father's day present in the form of a digital Caliper and measured a plastic model kit. That measured just about the same in scale.
In practice, the font size is about 2.5pt. As for printing, that has yet to be tested. We'll see how my printer fairs on my next test.
