I was an naval architect and I took style from state standards for naval drawings for my insrtuctions. It was most understandable and minimum style. Nothing extra, only needed information.

Right Dave, that's what I do, trace by hand, not the auto trace feature., I do it one vector at a time by hand, it's meticulous but I'm happy with the end results, I import the 3-D wireframe done in acad as a 2-D windows metafile (.wmf), then I hand trace that 2-D wireframe to get the results that I want in Corel.

You will find that even instructions by major publishers can still be patchy, so it is very easy to outdo them no pressure on this, you just have to be as clear as possible. Anything to get your message across.

And yes, avoid written text. The community is incredibly diverse and language barrier is a norm.

You've nailed it! Great question, and now to see how others do it is incredible!

Great way to help each other , while learning new stuff at the same time.
