Now that I work for my studio, I've come to terms with the fact that someone always steals my job. I do not aim to make a living from it, it is enough for me if the earnings from the models pay me the cost of construction and also pay the models of other authors for my needs. I make models mainly for fun - myself and others.
Hi Jaromir,
The statement from you is very true and probably many have experienced the same regarding this piracy thing. Its seems that fact is more stranger than fiction and this applies in this topic too.

No matter what is done, there are always methods of bypassing the security measures set for the papermodel designs.

What an awful sentiment, which serves only to justify stealing other people's work.

Those pirating paper models don't care* about what they steal and share, the effort serves two purposes for them:
a. to bypass payment for the art
and
b. to earn credit for distributng any work this way.
The credit comes in the form of financial rewards through web traffic or advertising,
and the personal reward of praise for being a self claimed "robin hood" of the internet.

This last excuse (robin hood) was actually used to me by a russian model thief. lol

*In many cases, pirated models are incomplete, old and out dated, damaged, lower quality and don't offer the same resources for support and assistance.
More reasons NOT to download pirated kits!

And if your models are being pirated, you can take action that works.
I file DMCA reports (takedown notices) when ever i find a file online that shouldn't be there.
Yes, it takes a little effort, but since I've done it before, I know how to do it fairly quickly.
Basically it involves sending an email to the abuse department of the file host.
As long as it contains the correct info in a standard format, it will be looked at.
I keep a copy of a past takedown notice and reuse it, replacing the necessary info.

As a matter of fact I filed two reports this morning regarding a pirated model (of mine) on a well known russian crap-pirate site.
One of the file hosts, deposit-files, responded and blocked access to the file I reported in only 7 minutes!!
Honestly...I sent the takedown notice at 8.58am...and got a reply at 9.05am!!!
This doesn't always happen...often it takes a day or two (for some file hosting companies) but some places respond very quickly because they don't want to be involved.

It just pissed everyone off because of the amount of printing ink required to print the pages!

When saving a file as a PDF, I have the options of restricting editing of the PDF page (a password is required to import the PDF into an editing software)
and
restricting printing of the page (read/eyes only).

Unfortunately, these encryptions don't work with all software, and people can still mess with my files.

What I would really like is some hidden code that deletes the file if you try to make a copy or upload it to the interwebs!
A self-destruct mechanism built in! lol

This paper model, if you choose to pirate it, will self destruct in 5 seconds. Good luck Mr Phelps.
It still may not work bcoz you can always take screenshots
papermodels are like computers, it doesn't matter how much you protect it, it can still be hacked, so this fight will never end

Are you an expert on "hacking" paper models then?

The point of effort, and discussion, is to educate people in ways to make the situation better.
Not suggest more ways to steal other people's work.

This fight will end...when everybody (that includes you) does their part.

Lol no, but I want to educate designers so that they can protect their work!
Also, I will be more than happy to do my part to stop piracy
Do you think there are many members who are pirates in this forum ?

designers don't need to be educated about protecting their work until
we educate the guys who "borrow" other peoples work for their own use.

That really doesn't need to be made public.
