Jona och den stora fisken (Jonah and The Whale)

I've never made a secret of the fact that I love building hand-drawn model kits and Gunnar Sillen has got to be my favorite designer in this area.

I was fortunate enough to acquire two prints of this model from Gunnar in 2005 but had put off the build until now.

The model is based on a ceiling mural of the Härkeberga Church done by Albertus Pictor in the 1480's.

A close up of the Jonah Mural:

Gunnar has remained true to the painting and the model was a joy to build and is now the pride of my collection.

Interesting model. Was it a color scan or did you do the coloring yourself? It really does do a nice job of bringing the mural to life either way. Thanks for sharing!

I purchased two prints from Gunnar. The coloring is his style of design and if you've not visited his site and downloaded his free Christmas Models I heartily recommend you do so!

That's fascinating. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

The shapes on that vessel make my brain stutter...also very inspiring!

I love Gunnars page on Paper Model History...it mentions my favs, Heighway and Vyskovsky and also confirms the suspected age of paper modeling-or-Papyrus modeling.

Thanx for sharing this truly unique work Rick!
