Harbour Scene 1:250

Hello folks,

i want to show you some pics of my "Harbour Scene Diorama 1930s". The freight harbour is available from HMV. There is the freighter "Schwan", which is moored and unloaded at the dock, the tug "Piet", a barge, a warehouse, 2 cranes, some vans (even a horse carriage) and a locomotive with several wagons.

The passenger dock consists of the tourist steamer "Königin Luise", also from HMV, and many small models that i borrowed from other kits or simply made myself. One of the passenger wagons has a removable top so you can see the compartments and even the toilet.

Several months of work were needed but this model was very satisfying and fun to build.

If you're interested, i could translate a "guided tour" through the harbour. I wrote it for my german forum and it shows many details with sepia-pics. Just tell me and feel free to comment

Greetings

Lars

Harbor...

Lars... That is an amazing model. .. I have always wanted to build a scene like that with an oceanliner and some tugs. It inspires me to get building again. Excellent work.!

Dear Lars:
Do you have any photos with a scale such as a Euro Coin. I looked at the photos and I felt that I was looking at a HO scale module in 1/98 not your stated 1/250. All I've got to say is WOW.
Thanks for sharing,
Miles

Lars, that is simply stunning. I am in awe. Which of the modles in the diorama are of your own design? That 'see-inside" passenger railcar is especially intriguing!

Lars,

Great work!

What is the overall size?

Will it be a public display? (it should be)

Makes my 1:100 Lilla Weneda look huge.

Hi Lars, you've done a great job with this scenery. Great models and wonderfull detailing all around. One thing I liked very muck looking at your diorama is how well you've blended all the different subassemblies together and created a very convincing looking harbour. Except for that dire strait leading out of the harbour. The figures shown here are really well made too - are they your own creations?

First, let me thank you for your nice comments!

@Gregg: I hope that you'll find enough inspiration to try it. If you want some more close-up pics, just say so

@Miles: I attached 2 pics with a 1-cent-coin. Hope it translates the dimensions

@Wyvern: The interior of the passenger train is my own creation, see the 3rd pic below. The whole dike and the passenger dock i did on my own, see pics 4+5, as well as the tables (including a menu card ) and chairs for the harbour restaurant, see pic 6. All was made with Corel.
There are some other small details i added on my own (warehouse interior, crane operators and gangways).

@George: Thank you so much, but no, the diorama is not in a public display. It rests quietly in my glass cabinet. The baseplate has a size of 30x60cm.

@zeawolves77: Thank you, well, not all is made from paper... There are some photo etched parts like the railing, crane parts and train equipment.

@Tappi: Thank you, i'm glad, you like it. The dire strait out of the harbour is more a concession to my limited space in my cabinet. In reality, i think it's not too bad
The figures are 1:220 plastic figures from Preiser. I colored them myself and they really fit well in the scenery (see pic 7). The difference in size to 1:250 is so minimal, you don't notice it.

@Kevin and monkeyrum: Thank you both!
