Thanks, Don,
It took me a while to figure out how to handle the curved seawall. I kept trying to design it as the front wall of the egg-crate and that made the structure very complex for cutting and gluing. It finally dawned on me to just glue a curved piece onto the front of a square box. Duh! |

I have the top on the egg crate. Hope to finish the basic landscaping of the cottage base by tomorrow evening. Then I have to complete the water part of the base (that is going to be a bit trickier). From the second photo, you can get an idea of the size of the layout when completed. 18 inches by 19 inches is a little bit bigger than I had planned, but to add trees, walkways and a driveway/parking area, it just cannot be any smaller.

George,
Thanks, for staying with me. I need to let the glue dry overnight and then I will "cut the grass". In photo #1 you can see the retainer wall in place and the underside of the grass. Photo #2 shows the texture of the grass. It is not perfectly to scale, but I think it will pass muster. The third photo is what I use when gluing paper to cardboard. It holds very well and drys rock hard and adds stiffness to thin cardboard; which is helpful when building ship hulls and other internal bracing. I just use a small piece of the cardboard as the glue spreader and then throw it away (saves on cleanup). I know, your saying "not eco-friendly" More tomorrow; please stay tuned. John |

Another baby step completed. I let the grass overhang the top of the seawall, so that I would not have to design a stone cap for the retainer wall. THAT would have been a real bear! Cheating is good, sometimes.

George and Elliott,
Thanks for the votes of confidence! My next step is to make the templates for the cutouts for the water surface. These cutouts will be the outlines for inserting the dock and the yacht into the water. The water will support the yacht and that will just be a water line trace of the hull. The dock, however, is going to be a complex cut, because the "water" has to look like it is completely surrounding each piling. I have a plan, but no plan ever survives first contact with the enemy. |

Just a quick update. The plan did not survive, but I had a plan B, which I will put into play after the holidays. I have to complete the project before 1 May 2017. So look for updates and progress in Jan 2017.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! John |
