Dear joshuajaeseo:
I suggest that you go to a map program MapQuest or so and Give the address of the Airport make the map scale to fit the screen and then some of these programs allow you to see the aerial view. a smaller airport might be better.
Good Luck,
Miles

Do you know if they do special requests in different scales?

Do you already have planes built at 1:144 scale? If so, that will constrain your options.

Even a small airport takes up a great deal of space. One mile of runway equates to 36.7 feet in 1:144 scale. At 1:1000 scale it only takes up 5.28 feet but most aircraft will look like small insects at that scale. How much space do you actually have to work with?

If you already have some 1:144 aircraft built and a square 5 feet on a side to display them, you can only model a section of an airport, something like a hanger, a tower, some flight line, and perhaps a small section of runway. The more you reduce the scale the larger the section you may model. At 1:144 scale, a 5 x 5 foot square represents 720 feet on a side. A 767 is about 180 feet long so you could fit 4, nose to tail, on a line 5 feet long.

If you go down to 1:200 scale, 5 feet now represents 1,000 feet in scale. That same 5 foot line will now fit 5 767s, nose to tail, with room to spare.

At 1:700 scale, 5 feet is 3,500 feet--more than half a mile! Now you can fit over 19 767s on a 5 foot line, nose to tail!

If you wish to model your local airport, start by looking up the airport in your favorite search engine and grab some maps. A quick Google search for 'CVG airport map' yielded many pictures of the overall airport layout. Find the coordinates of the airport and head over to Google Earth. Take a close look at the layout and structures then pick a section that looks interesting.

Once you know how much space you have to work with, what scale you want to use, and the general layout you wish to accommodate, only then start looking for models. You will find many free models of planes, towers, hangers, and support equipment out there so fret not about the cost.

If you intend to light your layout, plan out as much of the wiring as you can in advance. That will save you much potential heartache and frustration. How you will hide the wiring? Will you hide it in buildings? Under ground cover? Under the table? How many lights will you use? How much power will you need? Will you use a programmable logic controller? I realize some of those elements may be outside your budget and knowledge but if you plan wisely, you can come back to your airport in a few years and add many additional features. Big dioramas grow and change over time, taking on a life of their own in a truly wonderful way.

Good luck with your project!

My daughter used to live in Florence, Ky, near CVG. That's a big airport.
Don't know if the president ever visited you, but the free site Paper-Replika.com has a cool Air Force One in 1/144 scale. A pretty big plane at about 19" long. Also 747 models, British Airways and I think a couple others.
I got my AF1 model after the President visited our town earlier this month.
Don't really care for the President's politics, but we saw AF1 land. And, we found out what snowplows do in the off-season: they serve as Air Force One's bodyguards.
