A Japanese Dou
Yesterday I started a new project.
A Japanese Dou from Epson. This is the armour of Sanada Yukimura (1567-1615). The project consists of 30 pages and will be about 14" tall. Start by building the display box that the armour will be perched upon. This is pretty much a straight simple box structure. Next we started constructing the first piece of the armour, the Haidate. These are actually a front and back laminated. To simplify the construction and since they are mirrored. I scribed a centre line between the front and back, glued and folded over. Then placed in the press to cure. Once dry the pieces were edge coloured, matching the fabric pattern. They were then folded and applied to the top of the box. This is where I am at. Thank you for following. Questions and comments welcome. Jim

Good evening.
Update on the Japanese Dou. Moving on with the construction of the armour stand "Gusoku Kake". I had one of the tubes twist on me and had to rebuild it. The assembly was straight forward enough. It was important to keep all the parts straight and square. The miniature T square works wonders for this. Will have too see later if this stand will need to be glued down. Next up is to start on the construction of the main body of the Dou. Started with building the "Kusazuri", these are the panels that protect the waist area. These are then attached to a belt. The completed "Kusazuri" is then attached to the "Kabuki Do", the lower half of the breastplate. This is how far I have gotten so far. This model is approx. 1/4 scale, and will produce I think a nice display piece. Thank you for following. Questions and comments welcome.

The Phoenix Art Museum has a display of samurai armour that rotate pieces in and out of. Fascinating. Will enjoy watching your build.
