Socialist brutalist estate
So, this is an imaginary one (though I'll be working on a real place soon) socialist block of flats estate. This is like 85% done, I might be adding some shrubbery and minor details to it later, but the basic thin s is here.

Have a look at the 'news' page of my site zeistbouwplaten.nl for a number of Brutalist buildings which I added recently.

On a side note, the Rotunda building doesn't exist anymore, it's being torn down right now (though the demolition was held by the city architect a few days ago).

You wouldn't think to call the build 'attractive', but it does have atmosphere - quite 'brooding' in its starkness.

Your estate looks a lot like the Han River Apartments, where I lived with my family in Seoul, Korea, 1972-73. Our youngest son, then 6-7, and I flew kites in the narrow area between the buildings, where there was an almost constant breeze. I guess the buildings acted as a kind of venturi. We also flew paper airplanes off the balcony. There were shops and a grocery store on the bottom floor. The architecture might have been brutal, but we had a lot of happy times there.
This image is taken from the south bank of the Han. The apartments are along the north (right) bank of the river to the left (west) of the Hangang bridge. To the right is Namsan (South Mountain) and the Namsan Tower. Don |
