Tenochtitlan Aztec's Templo Mayor
Dear All:
I have been doing dad work with my daughter. I "helped" her doing the pyramid of the Great Temple of Tenoctitlan Templo Mayor - Wikipedia I based the design on the Cardboard / Karton model presented by Queen Bee J Como hacer una piramide de carton (templo mayor de Tenochtitlan) - YouTube I substituted the cardboard with foam board, which its easier to cut. I added a few details at the end made of soap. I was very impressed with the media and gave the figures a coat of paint, just in case. I included a Chac Mool (reclining guardian or something like that), the two sacrificial stones, and four serpent heads guarding the steps. I also added some P1@$+!( figures in 1/72. Needless to say that the pyramid is not to scale and still there is a lot of room for interpretation. I was considering doing the paper model but no time! I hope you like them. ps: Is this is the right place? The foam board is covered by paper |

Pretty cool. I see an A+ in your daughter's future. Nicely done.

Like it a lot, sir. Expect the teacher will, too.
What kind of paint do you use on soap?

Thank you Don and Vermin King.
I used two spray coats of a regular can, as soap is not the best surface to brush paint. I do not know exactly the composition of the paint of the can. The idea came after the Egyptian Project when the teacher asked the students to do soap sculptures based on "The Golden Goblet" book by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. So we did a mummy cat and a hipo and the calf. These figures are unpainted. It is a very easy media, almost like drawing, but not very durable! |

Thanks. I kept thinking that soap might dissolve a bit

Yes, if you use water base paints it will, but if you use oils or something that it is not water based it may work as a coat. Just try it, you will risk a bar of soap and you may use any hard pointy material for carving. I used a range from toothpicks, plastic forks, and more precise carving tools. And if you don't like the product, take a shower!

That's a very nice piece of work, right place to post or not.

Thanks for sharing your technique.
I find them fascinating even because I underwent some kind of imprinting implementing and playing an interactive fiction adventure game set at the time of the Aztecs. Beautiful!
