I've never heard of an internet convention either Chris, but.....
A few years back, Annie and I held a mini-convention/picnic at our house with about 10 cardmodelers and their families showing up for the afternoon. What a hoot !! I think we'll do it again. Chip |

Its over a 1000 miles away! Are you volunteering?
Also I should clarify - while this is only intended to bring cardmodelers together. Its main focus is to help introduce the hobby to the community.

Due to the overwhelming interest in the upcoming Modelers Convention,
we have decided to move the location to a Tent overlooking Marguerite Bay, in Antartica that way everyone has the same excuse why they will not be attending.

Yeah - I am not gonna try to set anything up. I will probably contact those few that expressed willingness to help if I do in the future.
Trying to set up events and getting people to come to IPMS shows is turning out to be an exercise in frustration. Heck if we cant get the core of the paper modeling community to show off their work at contests then I dont see the point. Chris

I think we have to look at how the Plastic Modelers groups evolved...
I think most groups were formed locally and as they grew, they expanded to cover larger areas and began to connect with other groups. Eventually you have enough smaller groups that want to get together and so they form Regional meetings. Which evolved into National meetings. I have to respect the fact that we have only two or three members in the same state/province, let alone the same country and that makes it difficult to organize an event that everyone can attend. Thats one of the reasons I tried to rally Canadian modelers. But with so few active members from Canada, and more specifically from my local area, (combined with a general lack of interest?) it seems like a pointless effort. European (Czech, Polish, etc) modelers seem to have the advantage of a high population of modelers confined into a smaller area. And Countries that can be traversed in a single day or less! Don't give up Chris! I would suggest organizing an event (when you are ready) in your local area. Keep it small...keep your time and monetary investment to a minimum. I would also contact other local Modeling groups and invite them to at least check it out*. The goal is to get as many guest, contributers and potential paper modeling converts as possible. Then, wait and see how many other paper modelers show up. Judge the turn out and decide if its worth to plan a better event. *Heres an idea...contact a local Plastic Modelers chapter....give them an assortment of preprinted models, and ask that they each build one and attend the event with their model for judging in a special category.
