FSPM CONVENTION show your interest....

Hey all!
I am seriously considering putting on a show in the Madison WI area. I want to know if there is interest. If I cant get some input/assistance from the real core of paper modeling (HERE!!) then there is no sense moving forward with the endeavor. Please check out the poll I cant do this without some assistance - ok a lot of assistance. I know this is a ways off but I want to have ample prep/lead time. I also want to make sure to not be too close to the International Paper Modelers Convention (unless Rick wants to take a year off)

I am not looking at THIS spring/summer but probably the spring/summer of 2012 as I need to save my earning for a while to be able to back this financially. It will be a free show for all involved, participants and people that come to check things out. There will be judging along the lines of an IPMS show, workshops for kids through adults (here is where I need the most dedicated help), at least one special event, a raffle, some demo's etc etc

Thoughts:
Workshops:
All age groups stomp rockets. I figure the easy ones can be built in a single sitting and will be an ongoing workshop for the weekend. Participants will get a free entry level stomp rocket kit

Adults - basic techniques of paper modeling including cutting with xacto type blade, scoring, folding, preshaping, edge coloring etc etc - participants here will get a mid level kit free.

Adults with modeling experience - get a harder kit for free they can start on site to ask questions

Kids workshop, build some really basic models

Special event - once daily but also open after each stomp workshop: STOMP OFF! Whomever gets the most distance from the rocket gets a prize!

Special Event - judging: second day similar to an IPMS event. I will be getting trophies/plaques/something! Maybe paper built up trophies as have been the subject of a couple threads. If I can get someone to build them....

Special Event - raffle, final day one hour before close, need not be present to win, may charge $1 per ticket to help offset costs - maybe

Demonstration: Advanced building techiniques - builders that are working on advanced projects that are willing to work on them in front of a crowd showing various techniques - maybe edge coloring, rigging, micro building, high detail etc etc

Demonstration - model photography

Demonstration - model design/recoloring

Suggestions?

Chris

Great idea Chris.
This sounds really interesting, and surely will be a success.
Living in a place so far from where you are, I can't help directly in any way. But I wholeheartedly support this

You don't know how much I wish I could see and be part of something like this.
But obviously, being poor and living in Southern Ontario means it has to be local for me.
Too bad.

For me, the expenses ($$$ and time) are the big problem problem, Chris.. sorry
Interestingly, over the years, we've been evolving toward internet conventions.

Hi Chris,

Why wait until 2012-you've got a captive audience at the capitol. Use stomp rockets to send message to the missing Dems...

No politics talk. Regardless of the importance of this thread to me I will close it if I see another reference to politics. Feel free to take the issue to private message or to the lounge if so desired.
Thanks
Chris

I'm close enough that I could be there. I would like to see demonstrations,
but it doesn't look like there will be anyone there to do any--so far.
I have judged IPMS conventions.
