Generally speaking, many contests have a special theme for special awards. If a fifties theme then anything entered that applies to that decade is eligible for the special prize. This does not mean you have to enter something from the fifties. Enter what you want to enter in the appropriate category.

One caveat though, many of the contests I have entered have had me place my paper models in the miscellaneous category because of the medium used.

Looking at the info online, to enter the contest is $10.00 with no limit to number of models. Spectaor admission is $5.00. Also they are using Gold Silver and Bronze judging (aka AMPS style). This means each model is judged on its own merit and could win any color medal G S or B. The models are not judged against each other.

I personally prefer this style of judging because it gives me a better indication of how well I can build overall instead of if I built something better than someone else. If you earn an award you actually did earn an award and didn't just place due to low number of entries in a category.

Thanks for the heads up Greg. I hope I have that week end off! I am eally looking forward to going now. I have two models I am quite proud of, may be three. So I will be entering them. The closest I have to anything from the Fifties is my 1948 Israeli S.199, a couple of years short.

You may have got your answers already, but bringing a paper model to an IPMS show is not a problem anymore; I've seen them at past Atlanta shows. The theme "Fabulous Fifties" is to be construed as a suggestion; there will be special prizes for the best 50's civilian model, and the best 50's military model:
MODEL EXPO 2010

but there will certainly be plenty of subjects representing the 30's, 40's, 60's, etc.

A vendor's table may not be really necessary if you are not actually vending. The schedule has probably already been set, but perhaps you could volunteer to do a seminar on card modeling, or a demo. You're doing them a favor!

OK folks, I am getting excited. I will have (I hope) a finished diorama of my ME-109 bellied into a wheat field and a few other plane and ship models. I also have a couple of shrunk down examples as well. And of course I will have a couple of in progress models to work on as well. It should be a blast! Are there any other Paper Modelers from the area going to show up as well?

OK, just got back from the show. No tables at the vender level...I hope you didn't pay for anything Chris cause they never heard of me, you, ecardmodels or papermodelers.com. I was able to set up in the show and tell section, which turned out alright. Talked to a number of interested folks. Had fun generally. Even my six year old was well behaved and had a blast showing his IAF Texan. He did end up buying a F-16 in 1/100 scale in plastic, his first such model. Nice big parts with just enough detail to keep him interested. I will post comments and pictures soon. Got to run!
