Tinkering with the VF1A Standard

I have been building the fantastic VF1 models from the download section for a while now and through all the builds i have found things that I wanted to change and tinker with on the designs. Having finally managed to get hold of a proper editing package I have now made the changes to the designs and have started the test build phaze.

Starting with the Battroid version the attached pictures show the changed design of the base of the chest piece now joined together to ensure a sharper join when glued and limit the need to cut out two separate pieces that may not line up when glued. Also I have provided for an actual intake to replace the normal print if so desired to add detail to the final product. Last is the new chest showin the intake details.

More pictures to follow as i get to each stage showing the changes that I have made to the existing model and once complete I will load my final product in the downloads section.

Thanks

Very nice! the 3-D intakes certainly add to the look. I had thought of doing that myself. Look forward to your new parts. Thanks for sharing with us.

The back piece of the chest is now done, only change is to link the two halves into one piece for ease of cutting to ensure an exact joint when putting them together. No change to the wings and part "T". For ease of reference I am using the names for parts contained in the present valkyrie downloads.

One big change is the in tail assembly, I have always found tha once the tail parts and part "U" Top and Bottom ar glued together you can notice the lumps on either side of the tail where the tabs glue under the part. To imilinate that and make the design easier I have joined part "U Top" straight onto the tail assembly and changed part "U Bottom" to accommodate the tabs without leaving the bumps giving a smooth surface to the tail. Even though it does not look pretty once glued it makes no difference to the model as the tabs are covered by the jet pack part "H".

I have also changed part "H" the jet pack to include a full bottom to make the pice more sturdy when gluing to the tail section as all four sides now hold the assembly together. I have noticed one change I need to make alredy and thats moving the tabs on the opposite sides onto the solid bottom part to make a smooth surface to join the H jet pack to the tail assembly which I will adjust to include in the final draft.

Pictures of the latest pieces and the changes below.

New pictures of the new jet pack part "H" attached together with the changes to the cockpit and nosecone. The main difference in the new part "W-2" nose blisters which now have a hole through them to make a cleaner joint to the nosecone for the legs joint.

Also attached is the pieces for the changed legs with a new backing to the side pods to the botton half of the legs, new knee joint and swivel of te knee. Will load more pictures as I go along.

Thanks for the complement Janx, hardly a master, that honour I leave to you and Getter1.

Finished the changes to the upper leg/intakes for the battroid. The only significant change is adding in a joint to the leg that allows the knee joint to swivel as well as bend. Next comes the lower leg parts with the changed sidepod and new feet design. Will load pictures once I have built them.

Started on the bottom part of the legs, the principal changes being the inclusion of a inner backing plate for the side podto glue the structure onto to increase its strength and integrity when gluing it to the rest of the leg. As the tabs fit over the iiner part it does not increase the size of the card being glued to the leg parts.

A further change is the feet portion. I have changed the design from the straight box to a hexzagon to create the impression of tapering into the leg joint, from most of the models I have seen this seems to be the best representation of the feet. I have also changed the foot to curve down to the toe.

On a different topic I have changed the cockpit parts by joining the top and bottom halves to curve around on itself creating a much cleaner tighter look. Now only one side of the cockpit pod as a joint and the decals are straight on the cockpit part itself.

Pictures attached.
