Another SDF-1 Macross
i started this a few months ago and have been working on it off and on a little at a time when i can. i took a little different approach to the model first in the selection of the card stock. since i was going to upscale the model with my new printer i got for Christmas i started searching for 11x17 card stock but all i could find in that size was no better that large sheet construction paper. i guess i just stumbled across the perfect thing (at-least i think so) at a local discount store "Poster Board" i got to looking at the dimensions (28x22) HMMM... well if done right i should be able to get 3 sheets of 11x17 out of one sheet of poster board. now i got to looking at the poster board itself. the front side was a little glossy and the back side was plain. so i bought 10 sheets of the stuff for 25 cents each ($2.50 for 30 sheets on 11x17 not to bad in my books) and cut the sheets down to the proper size. i printed out the model at 133% with the borderless setting on the on the printer feeding one sheet at a time as a test of the new printer. it worked flawlessly and in 5 minutes i had the entire thing printed out. sine i was going to build the Cruiser mode i did not print out the parts for the Storm Attacker.
I started with piece 1 on the page, cutting the the entire piece out and scored all the bends and tabs, as i was test fitting the part together it just would not fit well together with the stock being a lot thicker than normal, in response i decided to forgo the tabs all together and edge glue the entire model. all said and done i think this was a wise choice and the thing is coming together like a dream so far. i thank TC for a superb model and all those that have built it before me and posted their builds for inspiration. |

Love the SDF1, but a bit daunted by the effort required.
Dont know how you guys can build so fast and so neat. |
