Exdeath

Hello everyone. I have started a build of Exdeath from Final Fantasy. I got this model from Lubdar's Papercraft Blog - LUBDAR'S PAPERCRAFT BLOG: Exdeath. My brother turned me on to the site after he built the Gilgamesh model. I've never played the game or seen any of the movies however I like the look of this figure.

Following the instructions included with the model I started with the right foot. Part 1 is the sole and parts 2 - 5 make up the middle. Part 6 and 7 make up the sides

Exdeath-r_front.jpg

Part 8 - 10 make up the heel. Part 12 forms the upper right side and part 11 makes up the left

You need to finesse the back and sides to get the tabs to glue correctly and in hindsight I should have dome a little more dry fitting and adding some more creases. The sole of the foot starts as a flat piece and after gluing you end up with a nice little arch. Next up is the lower leg.

Right Leg

Here is the completed right leg. This piece is intentionally built so it angles inward.

Exdeath-front.jpg

On Part 20 you'll need to bend the left end out for the correct fit with the tabs on part 19 as well as to form the "cheek".

Exdeath-rear.jpg

Part 16 makes up the top of the boot.

Exdeath-boot.jpg

part 13 has this funny little corner and I couldn't figure out how it needed to be folded and glued so I ended up just cutting it off.

As you can see from the pictures there are multiple fitting flaws however the model has a skirt that will cover most of the legs. On to the left leg.

That looks pretty cool. Way beyond my capability right now, so will follow with interest.

Left leg and joinging

Thanks Whulsey! I finished the left leg and it goes together just like the right.

Exdeath-legs2.jpg

Joining the legs together was a little difficult. The directions are vague as to the best way to put the four pieces of the crotch together so I just did them in numerical order. You would be better off joining piece W3 and W4 to the right and left leg, respectively, first and then join the two legs together with parts W1 and W2. At any rate these are done and I can move on to the skirt.

Skirt

Here's a quick update of the skirt. I've been sidetracked by all these advent calendar models recently.

The back skirt is two sided. In the next picture you can see where my printer started running out of ink. This piece ends up on the "inside so it will be out of view.

Wow, that thing looks huge! Your assembly is really precise. I've built a few (much) smaller figure models, and found them to be extremely challenging. Your's is coming out great.

Thanks for the kind comment. Included in the .zip file for this kit is a .PDO file which is going to be a big help with the hands and other fine details.

On the topic of Pepakura I saw some interesting behavior when opening the file. If I opened it using Pepakura Designer the application would open and close repeatedly and rapidly. The cycles were so fast there was no way to stop it other than rebooting my machine. When I opened it with Pepakura Viewer there were no problems.

Side Skirts

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program. I finished the side skirts and got started on the torso. As you can see from the pictures both the inside and outside are textured so you'll need to glue four pairs of pieces for both sides.

Exdeath-side_1.jpg

There's a little piece that attaches to the inside of the right side skirt. It's actually made up of three pieces and I'm not sure why it was designed that way.

Torso

Here are some pics of the torso. Just put the pieces together in numerical order. Like I mentioned before the model owner provides a .pdo file and I've found this to be very helpful in fitting pieces together.
