Santa gets a new thread

I know, the title is a bad pun, but I just had to print it. My wife has a miniature Santa collection, but she does not have a PAPER Santa. Thus, I decided to build the Canon Santa Claus, Sleigh and Reindeer combo kit. Since I have never attempted a paper figure before, I thought that I would give you all a little entertainment as I struggle through this build. (No egg throwing, please). I have begun with Santa's head (as suggested in the kit). The first photo shows what I am trying to achieve and the second photo shows where I am at the moment. I will be updating daily, because I have to have it finished by Christmas Eve (it's a gift). Yeah, I know, it's a free kit (OK, so I'm cheap!)

George,

Thanks, I like "frugal" rather than "cheap".

Great Model! I've put the sleigh and Santa together. This year I plan to give the Reindeer a try, however lost my printed one and now will have to print another.

Here is the thread I started last year when, I made them; Good part fit!

Don, Thanks.

Mike, Thanks for the link. I will check it out after I finish posting here. The photo shows the finished face and hair. The cylinder is the neck piece. I had to do a bit of studying to figure out exactly how to glue that part. The instructions real clear on that one. Any way, the rest of the parts are for the hat. The odd looking part is the tassel for the hat.

By the way, I have been trying to find a replacement for my favorite glue (Ambroid). Last week, I stopped by my usual arts supply store and asked if they had a suggestion. The lady handed me a tube of Adhesive Tech. The glue is made in China for a company in New Hampshire, USA. I am amazed at its' holding power. One small drop, spread with a dental tool, will hold as well as the Ambroid, without the fumes. It sets up in about 1 minute and cures in 24 hours. The best part: $1.99 USD for 1.42 ounces! Based on my usage, one tube should build many models. If anyone is interested, I will include a picture of the tube in my next post. That's it for now. Back to building.

John

BTW-You're not being cheap.

A special made project for someone you care for is beyond priceless.

Time is the most valuable item we have, you're spending it wisely!!!

Thanks, Mike and Gary,

Real life raised its' head today and I did not accomplish as much as planned. There is a little progress: 1. I got the neck piece installed. 2. I got a good start on the hat and 3. I have started on the jacket.

The photo is the new glue. It really hurts to admit this, but it looks like this glue is a great deal easier to use on paper, then my old standby Ambroid. It also reduces the amount of glue needed for a good seal. It feels like I am selling out an old friend.(The photo did not upload, even though the attachment manager said that it did) I'm not sure what happened.
