SDF1 Build

started building the SDF1 over the weekend. this definitely not a model for beginners. i have had to print and remake and sometimes redesign some pieces 2 to 3 times till i got it right. but i am learning on a huge scale and having a lot of fun doing it. I will be building this SDF1 in cruiser mode and the build one in attacker mode.

one of the harder problems i ran into are the bevels on the main gun end here i redesigned the tabs cutting them completely from the small strips and added them to the other areas to better make a smoother bevel.

Yep, Glad to see a report on this one, it's not for the squeemish, but can be done.
The beveled parts are a bit of a pain, but it just adds so much to the final model that I couldn't leave them out! :D Any questions, I'm right here.

oh you need the bevels for sure, i will probably lose a lot of hair doing them, but that's part of papermodeling, its kind of like mountain climbing, you have to do it the hard way.

Thanks for posting guys, when i do the right side of the main guns i will post in detail what changes i made that might help someone in the future.

I have noticed i have been doing a lot of edge gluing of the smaller parts such the points on the main gun, as the tabs are either to large or to hard to work with on this model.

TC, with the detail you have on this model you could easily scale it up another 50% and still have an awesome model and it may even drop the difficulty down just a little.

yes, larger is better.

i try to use a lot of reinforcements anyway so the tabs just get in the way.
If there is not enough contact between the parts it means it needs more reinforcements.
I only use the tabs when I am really lazy and in a hurry.

Even for concave/valley folds I usually cut the faces apart then edge glue them back.

Wulf,

Lookin good so far I need to start a lot of mine over due to actually trying to use tabs. Not a good idea on the bevels on this model :P Yes I was being lazy and have paid the price for it :P

Keep up the good work

G1
