IronMan Figure

I love Ironman!! I mean the movie...the comic...etc
....can't wait for Ironman 2 coming soon!!

anyway...taking a break from plane building at the moment,
to build this kit that I have had for quite a while.

its from Papercraft (get it HERE) and as usual, from papercraft, its a very detailed and well designed model.
(I believe designed by uhu02? whomever that is?)

only problem is...and yes, this is my usual complaint...but its true!...there are no real instructions with the kit.
inside the PDF is this one page of pictures:

The actual page isn't much better for quality...
the images are small, slightly blurred and don't show enough angles to properly illustrate how everything goes together.
With all the compound angles on very small parts, it is a test of patience requiring much test fitting and studying of the images to find the right assembly.

but...I must say, it is progressing well (slow, but well!).

I just found a second IronMan figure model (HERE) which I will be trying after this one...it uses photo texturing, which I really like, but i don't think it is as well detailed as Papercraft's model.

Anyway on with this one....

Unfortunately I have progressed quite a bit, without photos...so I will just have to try and recap from this point.

I am following the numbered sequence of parts for building...I have no idea if this is the intended procedure, but thats what I am doing.

Starting with the Head...which was the only real source of problems.

no matter how much I trid, i could not get the back of the "cranium" to match (upper and lower parts)...the upper part overhangs the lower and looks okay, but if you look up from below, you can see the gap.

There are some very small slivers of parts in the face, I actually trimmed a couple away...but most of it goes together fairly easily...its just a trick to figure out all the compound folds and angles.

I did resize this kit, about 20% larger...and I am glad I did...because there are still some very small parts to deal with.

His back, was the biggest challenge in the torso...many compound angles...

I'm having a lot of difficulty figurng out the arm construction and how it fits to the torso...once again, an "instruction" page issue. Just not enough detailed images, from the right angles, to properly illustrate.

I have a feeling I am winging it and not sure if the arms will fit properly.
I have yet to figure out how the upper and lower arm attach to each other...there seems to be something missing from the elbow area.
(Here are the parts just hanging loose)

The hand (and fingers) were a terrifying prospect for me (I hate small stuff!)...but actually turned out to be easy to build. Only problem I have had is the thumb, which doesn't appear to be well shaped and looks more like a pinky finger...yes, I checked and rechecked the part numbers, etc!

...but this is a fist, knuckles down, that IronMan is leaning on, so it might not look too bad once it is finished.

Looking good. I've got that one but decided its about 2 steps above my current skill level. Glad to see somebody jump into it.

Looking good - treat it as a scratch build and press on!

Yogi (fill in the blank: engineering rule #1 - well designed ....... doesn't need instructions!)

Really great job, especially the work of the helmet visor, I see that it is not easy.
I hope you finish soon to see the result

thanks!!!!

one day I will get back to this model...I got stuck on the leg construction.
Another one of these models with little or no useable instructions.
The few included build images are really poor quality and don't help much.

I got very frustrated with it, and decided to take a break
and work on some repaints.

I am surprised you don't know who Uhu02 is. He is treated like a god-like character by at least a few paper modelers. From what I gather reading the posts over the years, it's tantamount to a sin to post his url. Think "you know who" from the Harry Potter books and you begin to comprehend the reverence some have for him.

Actually, I suspect I'll be castigated by his acolytes for failing to capitalize the "g" in god-like if any of them read this heretical post.

Hopefully, this little missive will give you a good laugh as recompense for the suffering you endured building his model.

well uhu makes great glue sticks...thats all I know

MR.UHU gets my praise just for making an IronMan model
and for creating it with some great textures and colouring!

...but he gets an a big fat F for instructions!

other than that, I don't believe in "gODs"

now let me get back to my Spitfire!
