Masters, show us your worst!
It's kind of intimidating for the newbies to papermodeling to show their builds when all they see are pictures of masterpieces. So I'd thought it be great if we show photos of the worst build that we ever completed and still keep around (or hidden away in a box locked in a bunker a mile underground).
The "Rules" for the photos are as follows: 1) THE MODEL MUST BE AT LEAST 90% COMPLETE. It's O.K. if it's missing a small piece, rigging, or some small detail, but don't show only the wing of a plane, leg of a robot, or a hull of a ship. You must show that you still stuck with it to the end. 2) YOU MUST STILL HAVE THE MODEL IN YOUR POSSESSION. Don't show one you gave away or threw in the trash. 3) DON'T SHOW A REBUILT OR A REPAIRED MODEL. We want to proudly show our mistakes to prove that we are all human and had to start somewhere. 4) KEEP THIS FUN. It's fine to make a playful poke at a friend, but don't get insulting. Remember that this is to encouage beginner modelers, that we learn from our mistakes, and we'll still end up with a unique, one-of-a-kind model! LAST NOTE: I would've gladly showed a photo of my worst build to start this, but I don't have a working camera now. So the honor of the first photo goes to one of you. |

The old camera not working excuse - I like it!
Okay here's mine: It's a Junkers plane by Schreiber-Bogen in 1:100 scale. It's not even an old one. Only made about 6 months ago. Tried really hard, and still cocked it up. The trailing edge on the port wing is about 1mm out of alignement. Tim |

but who keeps their failures?
if you are like me, they usually end up crumpled and torn to bits, and into the Trash bin! Or, like Tim, you get that "trailing edge 1mm out of alignment" and that becomes your "worst failure" ???LOL If I could get my assemblies even close to 1mm, I'd be laughing! I don't think I have ever hid my mistakes (in any build threads) during any of my builds so far... so I don't really have a "worst build"...they're all crappy! But I have kept one model that I would consider a "failure". A failure because it was a long and frustrating experience and I was unable to finish it. It still sits (after almost 2 years) unfinished with the hopes that one day, someone else will try it and help me figure out how to put it together! and that would be my Uhu Ironman

I'm new to papercraft, and I don't get intimidated by "expert" builds. After all, I've only been doing this since mid Dec. I also have no shame in showing my builds, even as an amateur, cause if someone else out there sees a mistake I make, I would hope they could tell me how I could have done it better. Fear of critism is for little teenage girls after all

Ok, this is the P-model Blackbird, made it a couple of years ago, it lacks some formers , so after a month or two it looked like a lame duck, I sprayed so much varnish on it that it looked like a crocodile :cool
Have one on me guys.. |

Definition of EXPERT.
In algebra, X stands for the unknown. A "spurt" is a drip under pressure. Thus, an "EXPERT" is an unknown drip under pressure. We will never again be intimidated by "EXPERTS". |

Well I am not considering myself a ´master´ or an expert, I have just picked up building papermodels since a year or so. But I consider my RMS Britannic conversion one of my worst builds;
Nevertheless I have it still on display with my other Titanic related models. Greetings, Jerry

I just stop building them when they go 'tits up' (that's a technical term) and start all over again, no point in spending any more time on a model your not happy with.
Uploaded my oldest model, the boat, made when dot matrix printers roamed the earth. Also the longest model I ever took to build (depends what you mean by worst really ), a fairy on snail, it's over 3 years old, repeated binning of parts that I wasn't happy with, the dress and shoe(you can't see) are about a month old so it's not abandoned. Don't you hate the way a flash makes all the white edges stand out more than they should. I also upload my latest technical hitch (the one in the middle), a result of bad design, which is the perfect example why I personally don't have any 'worst builds', they go straight in the bin - me thinks rule #1 should go in the bin as well. |
