It kinda depends on how big that part is. If it is small, I'd edge glue it. If larger, I'd make a ring or arc-ed piece to go under the narrow section and glue the petals to it.

But then again, I am not a master of these things. That's just how I'd do it.

Many thanks for all advices. Method BARX2 seems promising if the part is not too small. On the other hand gluing edge to edge seems very difficult to me. Using BARX2 method you could use any shape not only circles - I was thinking about triangles myself. I wonder if one could use self adhesive tape pieces for the purpose?

I think I go back and get myself an easier to bulid model. This is my first model so Mosquito from MM will have to wait until I get some experience.

Best way: shape the leaves carefully so that there is no stress when gluing. Cut a small circular piece of paper and carefully glue the tips of the leaves onto this. Set aside and let dry and harden.
Then check final shape again, put tiny amounts of glue on the inside of each leaf, and cover with strips of tissue paper. Let dry, correct the shape where necessary, and repeat the process. If the cupola needs strength, repeat this several times. Important: use glue sparingly to avoid smears leaking through, and allow to dry completely at each stage before continuing.

I think Diderick is right about the Petals basically having the shape bent into them so that the are already in the shape, and the glue is doing minimal work.

Concur,
I usually roll the petals lengthwise before rolling the whole assembly circumferentially to get the petals to curve in to the center.

Yogi (but I still hate doing petals ...)

I would cut the part out a well as you can.

Then preform the petals into the desired shape. So when you come to glue, all this is doing is holding the part in place.

Above all take your time and don't rush it. It it takes a week or two so be it.

You're definitely honing your card modeling skills. I've had some luck using the inside of a dome shaped object as sort of a form when gluing paper domes. In the future I think I'll try coupling that with some of these other methods, though.
