what glue?
Hi all,
as I am new to this hobby, I currently use prit stik and bit of pva glue. can anyone recommend a glue to use. mainly card is what I use and prit stik is difficult to get in small areas. any help please thanks Gordon |
Some glues used are Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Glue, Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue, Tombo Mono Aqua, various CA glues (super glue, crazy glue, &ca.)
It helps to put a little glue on a scrap piece of cardstock or some other holder and use a toothpick to apply to the area to be glued. Wooden toothpicks are OK, a plastic one is better. :) |
Hi Gordon
Here in the UK Evostick Resin W is the glue to use ( or any other PVA). As Doug mentioned use a toothpick to apply a thin film to just the area you want to join. For larger areas you can apply with a brush to spread over the area. Super Glue, just a cheap liquid one is usefull to harden the card/paper. Hope this helps. Gordon Gordon |
I use Titebond II carpenter's glue made by Franklin International of Columbus, Ohio USA (liberated from the shop in my garage). It is a PVA type (no fumes), doesn't dry clear (slight yellowish tinge so apply carefully with the tip of a toothpick), tacks up solid in 10-15 seconds (no clamping needed), and effectively dries in minutes on paper/card (no waiting overnight for the glue to dry, just keep building).
Any yellow carpenter's glue should perform similarly. Yogi NOTE - I do use glue sticks for laminating large areas if needed, but that's the only time I use them. |
I've used Aleene's regular Tacky Glue on models that are now several years old and they still look OK to me. I'm currently finishing up a bottle of Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue, which I like because it's very transparent, but I think it may be discontinued. Zathros recently mentioned liking UHU's "Creativ’ Craft Glue for Cardboard & Paper" because it may be less prone to yellowing.
I like Yogi's idea of Titebond II for durability, but I'm not sure I'm neat enough to keep it from showing. I recently ran across something called "Crafter's Pick The Ultimate" that claims to be the only water-based "super glue". I'd be interested in hearing from anyone whose used it in card modeling. I use only COLLAL transparant glue and if needed a cheap super glue.
For laminate or big parts i use a spray. Watch out there is no waterbase |
