Paper Calipers

Does any member have a recommendation for a good paper caliper/micrometer ? There are so many references to different weights of card/paper that it seemed prudent to add calipers to the box of tricks as an aid to building. Thank you all in advance.

Good recommendation Rich. Harbor Freight also has several other styles, usually on sale at low prices! Jim

Harbor Freight also has a 6" digital caliper for $9.99 instead of $19.99 with a coupon from the current sales paper. Good until 31 December 2014.
Accuracy +/- 0.02 mm / 0.001 in.

Harbor Freight 6 in. Digital Caliper

There is also a 4" digital caliper available that can be purchased at a reduced price sometimes.

You can get outside, inside, and depth measurements with one of those digital calipers.

I agree with Miles. The digital calipers do go through lots of batteries. So money in fact that I went back and purchased the old school analog variety with a dial readout. They are also available at Harbor Freight for just about the same price.

Awhile back I stumbled on an on-line battery hack for getting eight 1.5 v button cells from an A23 or M21/23 battery. Since I'm going to Walmart tomorrow for to buy a two pack of A23 batteries because I need one for the front doorbell. I'll take the other one apart per the hack instructions to see if it works. If it does I'll have eight button cell batteries for less than 25 cents each.

Here's a link for the hack:

12 Volt Battery Hack! You'll be Surprised...

I hope this is helpful or at the very least interesting.

I like the Wixey brand of calipers. Its my go to pair in the workshop, better than anything sold by Harbor Freight but still moderately priced. I make wood models as well as paper plus do some engineering stuff too. So I make good use of the three dimension style readout. Handy around the house too for quickly checking out nut and bolt sizes. Just go to Wixey dot com
