Thinning Tacky Glue

I've got a bottle of Alene's Tacky Glue that's too tacky, too thick. I know you can thin Elmer's Glue-All with water, will this work on Tacky Glue also?
I've also got a bottle of Elmer's School Glue, which is just about useless for models. Are these all PVA glues? Would it work to thin out Tacky Glue with School Glue?

Alene's can be thinned with water, but be warned, it doesn't take much water to thin it down considerably. I've never tried using Elmers school glue for paper models...I've seen several negative comments on it here in the forum. I think they are all PVA glues, but not all PVA glues are equal. I would recommend getting a bottle of demineralized water for doing the thinning with.

Basically, Alene's Tacky glue is just Elmer's school glue with reduced water content. Elmer's will work on paper models, you just have to use it sparingly, and clamp it for a while. The Elmer's clear gel is worthless.

I use Elmer's school glue all the time. Spread it on with a toothpick very sparingly as the water content can cause the card to distort if over applied.

I only ever use Elmer's School Glue.
A little goes a very long way and clamping can certainly help get a stronger bond.
And it tastes like Kindergarten (-=

Thanks guys. I have a deionized water system, will try a little of that.
I personally don't like School Glue because it just doesn't seem to stick very well, for me at least. I personally prefer Glue-All for most stuff, or Tacky Glue.

I barely remember what I had for dinner last night, much less how Kindergarten tasted.

I like so many others started off using Elmer's White Glue but soon learned of the problems it could cause and made the switch to Alene's glues and never looked back. Thank you Willygoat. wc

Elmer's flavor does take me back, but since I began paper modeling I've been keeping an eye out for good old library paste. It's probably terrible for modeling but a taste sure would hit the spot!
This is a great thread, I had the same question.
