Joining of biger scale objects

Hello,
i will soon star to build big "model" from thick (6mm) cardboard.
It will basicly not be an model, but construction of some sort.

It will be around 3m long and 1m wide.

So, till now i joined paper parts together with superglue (for small paper models).
Since model will be to big for superglue i must use some other type of bonding material. I like super glue becouse of its low amount of dry time.

Bonding material could as well be an ductape, because it will not be seen at
finished product.
( i will cover it with epoxy and fabric at the end and spray color over model )
Ofcourse i will cover it with varnish before epoxy, so epoxy doesent go in the cardboard

Thanks for help

Hot glue gun is a quick and durable method for cardboard, maybe that could work for you.

I've been more or less happy with Aileen's Tacky glue.

Hi Anze did you consider using 6mm foam board it bends better than cardboard easy to cut and glue.

Anze,

Many small boat projects are about the same scale as what you describe here. A common method for these boats is to use a sticky fiberglass tape reinforced with Titebond III or a similar wood glue. You could use duct tape at intervals to hold the parts together until the glue cures. Since you are going to use a fabric and epoxy method anyway you could also just use fabric strips and the epoxy as the "tape" and "glue" for this method.

Whatever you do, you should first make up some test pieces to evaluate the strength of each method. Then use the one that works best for you.

Curt

I Agree with Hot Glue gun, though i haven't tried the other stuff. Ive made a full size wearable knight armor from cardboard, most of it glued with hot glue. It should do the trick.

my suggestion would be a carpenters glue and a sticky fabric drywall tape. i dont think a hot glue gun would be very useful on large pieces because the quick cool down time. it would be cold and hard before you could set the piece
