Realistic Tree
Not sure if this post should go here, but here goes
I'm looking to build a (free) paper model tree, realistic looking or somewhat realistic one. Haven't found any. Anyone have encountered or built one? |

Hmm...,I guess my preference would be any kind of "shady" looking tree (so not like a pine tree which is tall and narrow. As for size, I guess at least bonsai "level"? So bigger than a big mug?

If you Google Image search "Paper trees" you'll find hundreds, but very very few are realistic. Google search "Realistic paper trees" and they start to look a little better.
These are the best I found, but it ain't easy, and they do use things other than paper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdvwhJoYqAM https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=lSHC_T_w4C0 I just Googled "Paper bonsai" .... Wow, some of them are quite impressive. https://www.instructables.com/id/How...r-Tree-bonsai/

JohnM, thanks for all of this! I have searched using Google, but pretty sure I wasn't looking for the right thing. I never thought to look for paper bonsai and that is a good term!

For such searches, I find better results if I switch Google to "Images" before entering the search term. Also, give the word "paper" a higher search priority by putting it in front of whatever you're searching for..

Check the model railroad sites. They make very realistic trees. They are not paper however.

Here's a tree I did for a diorama a while back...it was a toilet paper tube, cut and bent, then covered with toilet paper painted with white glue and a little texture sand. Then painted.

Here are some photos of trees used in wargaming.
Trees available commercially as part of a set: The two larger ones are from the American Civil War wargame book, the two smaller ones are from World Works Games. Overhead view of the trees showing the three way construction: You could make your own trees using the system from those two sources and your own images, either drawn by yourself or copyright free images.
